Designed by Shane Marsh Architect and built by BQ Constructions, this New Farm Queenslander was transformed through a raise, build-in, and extension, with a contemporary pool pavilion that respects the original streetscape while adding a bold architectural element.
The project commenced with the safe removal of the original lead-based coatings from the existing weatherboard residence before comprehensive interior and exterior coating systems were applied throughout both the restored home and its contemporary additions.
The centrepiece of the home is a sculptural spiral staircase, finished in Glimmerputz by Calce Company. This bespoke Venetian plaster finish continues through the expansive entry feature wall and dramatic black powder room, creating a cohesive material palette that immediately defines the interior. The scale and execution of these specialist finishes make them integral architectural elements rather than decorative features.
Balancing the restoration of a character home with contemporary architectural detailing required the same level of care across every surface, resulting in finishes that complement the quality of the design while celebrating the contrast between old and new.
