Queenslanders and heritage homes
A Queenslander has more edges than a modern house. Fretwork, battens, lattice, stumps, verandah rails and sash windows each need detail work. If your home is heritage listed or sits in a character overlay, we can help you check what council expects before you settle on colours.
Lead paint in older homes
Homes built before 1970 can carry lead paint under later coats. Sanding or scraping it without controls spreads lead dust through your garden and your neighbours' yards. The Australian Standard for lead paint in homes, AS/NZS 4361.2, sets out how to handle it without spreading dust. Raise it with us when we quote.
Why preparation matters
Most exterior paint failures start with preparation. Paint over chalking, mould or flaking coats and the new paint lifts with the old. Bare timber left open to the weather takes on moisture, and rot under paint keeps spreading.
Paint for Brisbane sun and storms
North and west elevations take the most UV and fail first. Low sheen suits weatherboard and render. Windows, doors and fascias take the most weather and contact, so they suit a harder gloss. Expect seven to ten years from a timber exterior and longer from render.
The drier months from April to October give the most reliable painting weather in Brisbane. A coat that gets rained on within a few hours has to come back off.
